JOB DESCRIPTION
You will be part of a small team responsible for the design and specification of production equipment and controls, ranging from small assemblies to entire production lines and their associated controls and systems. Working closely with the customer, project team, mechanical design, electrical design, and a build team, you will be responsible for supporting an idea through concept, specification, procurement, and delivering a working pack of instructions to the build team.
The role is best suited to an ambition electrical engineer who enjoys both hands-on and office based activities, problem solving, investigating and creating solutions to the very highest standards. If you are motivated to develop your skills and continuously improve, you will fit in well.
THE ROLE
Primary Roles
- Produce and update electrical drawings & schematics.
- Carry out site assessments, installations, and modifications to electrical and controls systems.
- Support design team with the design of electrical control systems (creating/modifying schematics, PLC and drive programming & setup, sizing and choosing of components).
- Support design team with the design and development of safety systems (risk assessments, CE and UKCA marking, meeting EN standards).
- Support design team with the development of electrical design specifications.
Secondary Roles
- Provide high quality technical support.
- Convert old drawings to updated CAD versions.
- PLC programming & editing of existing.
- Participate and engage with full design process.
- Support procurement activities (liaise with suppliers, obtain costs, raise PO’s, manage delivery schedules).
Tertiary Roles
- Champion safety initiatives and actively enforce safe working practices on site – specifically relating to machinery.
- Communicate regularly with the customers with updates, scope changes, improvement recommendations etc.
- Identify improvements, and investigate and evaluate new concepts, methods, and technologies.
- Support maintenance on critical breakdowns (working as a team to resolve issues)
- Train staff/knowledge share to support the development of other team members.
TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS
Europe, Dubai, Thailand, USA and other worldwide locations as necessary. Approx 1-3 times per year with a duration from 1-2 days up to 2 weeks as required.
THE CANDIDATE
- NVQ/HND/BTEC/Degree and industrial training. 18th Edition desirable.
- A Strong, robust electrical engineering background, with controls systems experience, practical engineering experience (wiring/panel build etc.), fault finding, and an understanding of current wiring regulations.
- Competence with 2D CAD and electrical packages, E-plan desirable.
- Able to design elements of controls systems.
- Ability to fault find and diagnose control systems issues and anomalies.
- Proven practical experience.
- Basic mechanical understanding.
