Mechanical Engineer (KTP Associate)

Location: Downing St, Smethwick

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineer to fast track their career as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.

You will undertake a 3-year collaborative project between the Hadley Group and Brunel University London. Based at the technological heart of the company in the West Midlands with the expectation that you will visit Hadley’s overseas operations.

Please note, if successful you will be employed by Brunel University for the duration of the 36 month fixed term contract.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will take a leading role in revolutionising Hadley’s production line setup and performance and in doing so enable the company to move into lucrative, complex and high precision production for the new generation of automotive and construction products.

The post holder will design systems and undertake analysis that will drive reductions in setting times and scrap while increasing precision and production capacity. You will receive extensive practical and formal training including residential management training courses. You will also benefit from a personal training budget.

Qualifications and Experience

  • You will hold a 2:1 degree in a mechanical engineering based subject and ideally an MSc or PhD in industrial process optimisation or a related discipline.
  • Ideally, you will have background knowledge in a range of the following continuous improvement, material characterisation, stress systems, production and metrology.
  • You will have the ability to plan and organise your own workload, and be able to work to a deadline. You must be willing to take ownership of the project including management of finances, resources and timing
  • Practical engineering skills to design and trial enhancements is essential.
  • You must also be capable of physically working on a production line and implementing technologies.
  • You must be able to travel in UK & aboard and ideally hold a driving license.
